Robert E. Poynton

Poynton, Robert E., Age 74, passed away peacefully at his beloved West Rogers Park home on Chicago’s far north side.

Robert was a longtime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 399. Over his 40-year career, he dutifully cared for several loop buildings, including the former Amalgamated Bank building on State Street. He also served in the United States Merchant Marine, Great Lakes Fleet. Robert was an enthusiastic volunteer for Chicago’s Democratic Party, spending countless hours engaging neighbors in ward and city-related initiatives.

Robert graduated from Brother Rice High School in 1965, and later attended Quincy College. He is survived by sisters and brothers Mary Anne, William (Freweini), Gregory, Francis, Jerome, Virginia (John Brna), John and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas M. and Mary E. Poynton, and brothers Thomas, Jr., and Mark. Internment will be private.
