Roy T. Cloud died Thursday, Feb. 8th at Saints Mary & Elizabeth Medical Center in Chicago. He was 79.
Roy had lived in Chicago for more than 50 years and was residing in the Bucktown neighborhood when he died. He worked for many years at Rose Records in downtown Chicago and later in chain record stores. His love was for classical music.
Roy grew up in Pleasant Hill, MO, where his family ran the local weekly newspaper, The Pleasant Hill Times. He was the son of Tilghman R. Cloud, onetime editor of The Times, and Riva Heslar Cloud, who taught Spanish and American history at Pleasant Hill High School. He was the grandson and namesake of the founder of The Times.
In Pleasant Hill, Roy was especially active in Scouting, rising to the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a 1956 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School, where he played cornet in the marching band. During high school, he worked in the “back shop” of The Times, mainly working on commercial printing.
He attended the University of Missouri before moving to Chicago.
His survivors include his only brother, George William “Bill” Cloud and Bill’s wife, Margaret, of Chapel Hill, NC; his niece, Amy E. Cloud of Bogotá, Colombia; and his nephew, Daniel W. Cloud, of Walnut Creek, CA, and by his first cousin, Judi Ellis of Bloomington, IN.
His body is to be cremated, and he has requested that his ashes be returned to Pleasant Hill. Condolences may be sent to Bill Cloud, 14 Timberlyne Road, Chapel Hill, NC, 27514.
