Scott Allen Cook

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Scott Allen Cook, age 54, on August 21, 2026 after a battle with lung cancer. Scott passed peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at Journeycare Hospice in Barrington, IL

Born on April 17, 1972, Scott grew up in Norridge, attending James Giles Elementary School, Ridgewood High School and later, Schaumburg High School. He was active in sports, including football, basketball, baseball, track, and wrestling. Scott took pride in appearing on the Giles Hall of Fame for wrestling and being a member of the Giles basketball team which broke the national record for the longest winning streak in 1987.

Scott was known for his outgoing personality, quick wit, and smile that would light up a room. He was a natural salesman who started out selling the Daily Herald and later joined his uncles at Schaumburg Dodge selling cars. In 2007, he joined the US Postal Service, working various routes including Wrigleyville and Norwood Park where his charm and hard work made him well known and loved by the many people he served.

Above all, Scott was a devoted and incredibly proud father. His sons, Scottie (19) and Sean (17) were his greatest accomplishments, his pride and joy, and the center of his world. He loved coaching his boys in football and was their biggest supporter for every sport and every season of their lives. Some of his happiest and proudest moments were watching his boys compete, grow, and become the young men they are today. Scott loved all his family deeply and valued the time they spent together.

Scott is survived by his sons, Scottie and Sean, partner Melissa Loew, mother Janeal Simale (Randy), brothers Anthony Cook (Elsa), Steven Cook, and Brandon Cook, step-siblings Toni Marie Broms, Matthew Simale (Esmeralda), Christopher Simale (Theresa), Kim Simale (Thanasis), and many loving aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind extended family, many friends, and members of his mail routes who will miss him dearly.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 28th at 10 am at Immaculate Conception Church 7211 W. Talcott Ave., Chicago, IL 60631. Following the mass, friends and family are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life at Zia’s Social Italian Restaurant, 6158 N. Northwest Highway, Chicago, IL 60631. Complimentary valet parking will be provided.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the LUNGevity Foundation at LUNGevity, offering support, resources, education, and innovative research for lung cancer.
