Shawn Leonard Brutt

Shawn Leonard Brutt, 51, of Morton Grove, Illinois, passed away on September 23, 2026, following a heartbreaking diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in August. He was raised in Northfield, Illinois.

Known for his friendly, outgoing personality, big heart, and love for talking to everyone, Shawn made friends everywhere he went—many lasting a lifetime. He spent many years working at Dominick's in Northfield and MOD Pizza in Mt. Prospect, where he connected with countless people. A passionate sports fan, nothing brought him more joy than following his favorite teams and sharing that excitement with others.

Shawn was deeply grateful for Orchard Village, which provided him with many opportunities and supported his daily living and recreational activities, helping him live life to the fullest.

Shawn is reunited in rest with his late mother, Merylann Brutt.

He is survived and will be deeply missed by his mommy, Claudia Brutt; his brothers, Rich Brutt (and his wife Wendy) and Ryan Brutt; and his sister, Stephanie Brutt. He was a proud and devoted uncle to his nieces, Taylor and Ashley, as well as a cherished nephew, cousin, and faithful friend to many. Shawn’s heart and home extended well beyond bloodlines, and he leaves behind his beloved family by choice, The Carpenters.

A private memorial service will be held on October 11, with Shiva to follow at the home of Rich and Wendy Brutt from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Shawn’s memory may be made to Orchard Village (orchardvillage.org).

His warmth, smile and loving spirit will be missed and celebrated always.
