Shawn Arthur Mayers, 50, of Shabbona, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends after a courageous six-year battle with cancer.
Shawn was born on January 27, 1976, in Iowa City, Iowa. Throughout his life, he was known for his love of computers and technology. His passion for technology became a fulfilling career, where he worked as a Network Engineer for Baker McKenzie. Shawn took pride in his work, using his knowledge and problem-solving skills to help others and keep complex systems running smoothly.
Outside of his passion for computers, Shawn found happiness in gaming and the friendships it created. He was an avid fan of role-playing games, especially Dungeons & Dragons, where he enjoyed the creativity, storytelling, and camaraderie shared around the table. He was also a dedicated video gamer whose favorite world to explore was World of Warcraft, spending countless hours adventuring alongside friends and creating lasting memories.
Shawn is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer Mayers; his cherished daughters, Triana Mayers and Kira Mayers; his father, Arthur Mayers; and his sisters, Amber Mayers and Courtney (Greg) Duffy. He also leaves behind extended family members and friends who will remember him with love and affection.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Mayers, and his nephew, Coleman Perry Ketchum.
Shawn will be remembered for the love he had for his family, his strength and perseverance during his battle with cancer, his passion for computers, his dedication to his career, his enthusiasm for gaming, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him. Even through difficult times, Shawn remained surrounded by the love and support of the people who mattered most to him. Though his time with us was far too short, his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
A celebration of Shawn's life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in DeKalb, Illinois, officiated by Pastor Marty Marks.
