Chicago

Steven Avery Daniels was born on March 11, 1981, in Evanston, Illinois, to his beloved mother, Jeanette Daniels. He was her only child, and from the very beginning, Steven held a special and cherished place in her heart.

Steven was a bright, intelligent, and naturally gifted young man whose personality and sense of humor could light up a room. He began his education at Roswell B. Mason Elementary School on the West Side of Chicago. On his sixth birthday, Steven relocated to Roselle, Illinois, where he went to live with his grandmother, the late Jean Daniels, whom he lovingly and affectionately called “Granny.”

Steven continued his education at Nerge Elementary School, where he completed his elementary years and received his fifth-grade graduation credentials. He later attended Robert Frost Junior High School, where he demonstrated a strong ability in mathematics and developed a love for sports. Steven went on to attend James B. Conant High School in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. There, he continued to excel academically while making his mark in athletics. His dedication and natural ability earned his Most Valuable Player honors in both basketball and football before graduating from high school.

Never one to stop pursuing knowledge, Steven later continued his educational journey in Phoenix, Arizona, where he pursued studies in Engineering.

Steven believed deeply in the importance of family. As the only child of an only child, the bond he shared with his mother was especially unique and precious. Those who knew Steven will remember his quick wit, contagious humor, intelligence, athletic ability, and the way his personality could bring laughter and joy to those around him.

Though his journey on this earth has come to an end, Steven's memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed by his mother, family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His life reminds us that the love we share with one another is a gift that remains even after we can no longer hold each other close. Steven may no longer walk beside us, but the memories, laughter, and love he gave will remain forever. His mother, Jeanette Daniels, shares these words from her heart: “Sometimes the blessing is not in what God gives, but in what He takes away. We’re addicted to what destroys us.

My son, if there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart; I’ll stay there forever.

It’s me and you against the world...”

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever her son.
