Susanna Mueller Mayer of Mount Prospect, IL passed away at home on July 21, 2023. She was 93. Susanna Mueller was born in Yugoslavia in the town of Otok. After World War II, she and her family were sent from Yugoslavia to live in a refugee camp in Linz Austria. While at the camp she met her beloved husband Johan Mayer. The two married on April 18, 1949. They would remain living in the camp for eleven years and while there she bore both of her sons. The family applied for VISAs in the United States and Germany. The United States Visa came through first and so in 1956 the young family immigrated to Chicago.
Susanna had four brothers, all who pre-deceased her. She was the loving wife of Johann Mayer and the loving mother to Rudolf and John (Kim) Mayer. She was the devoted grandmother to Alexander (Kelly) Mayer, Nina Mayer, Emily (Tyler) Peacock and Olivia (Hope) Luther. Her grandson John Eric preceded her in death. She was also the proud great grandmother of Jack Mayer and Madison Peacock, the later which she was able to meet and hold just three weeks prior to her death.
Susanna was a seamstress. She worked for an upolsterer creating couch and chair cushions, covers, and drapes. She was also a devoted homemaker and an incredible cook, sharing the traditional German cookies and pastries with her family.
The family is currently planning a celebration of life, and details will follow at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to Chicagoland Cremation Options, Schiller Park, IL.
