Thomas “Tom” Smaron, 71, left this world peacefully at home with his wife, Sandi, by his side.
Tom was born on December 27, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Andrew and Wanda Smaron.
Tom grew up in what is now known as West Town, where he made some of his fondest memories with his cousins. Later, he moved to Logan Square. He and Sandi made their home and built a life together in the Irving Woods/Dunning area, where they shared many meaningful years filled with love, laughter, and quiet moments.
Tom began his career with the Oak Park School District, and for many years worked independently in handy and construction work—skills he was known and appreciated for by many. He later retired from the City of Chicago’s Department of Housing, bringing to a close a lifetime of hard work and service.
Tom was a man of deep appreciation—for nature, animals, and the simple joys of life. He was an exceptional cook who loved preparing meals for family and friends. He was also a collector in the truest sense of the word—his garage was famously packed with everything and anything, from useful tools to long-forgotten treasures. If you needed something, chances are Tom had it (and probably two of them) tucked away somewhere. One of his favorite places to visit was Las Vegas, a city he and Sandi enjoyed traveling to together, creating many happy memories over the years. Tom was a proud father who loved his children deeply and cherished the unique bond he shared with each of them.
Tom will be remembered for his warmth, his quiet strength, and the thoughtful way he cared for the people and world around him.
Tom is survived by his wife, Sandi; his children, Tracy, Betty (Mike), and Mary; his grandchildren Thomas III, Chassidy, Taylor, Gianna, Samantha, Todd Jr., Cortland, Katelyn, Joshua, Hailey, and Jaxon. He is also survived by his sister, Eleonore. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Jr. and his brother, Andrew.
