Vanessa D. Ross was born November 18, 1953 to the union of Rada Long Sr. and Lovie Smith-Long in Chicago, Illinois. She was one of 12 siblings. Vanessa accepted Christ at an early age. Vanessa attended Coolidge Elementary School in Phoenix, Illinois and Thornridge High School in Dolton, Illinois. She later on went to college to pursue her education. Vanessa was united in holy matrimony to Harold Ross on November 14, 1989. Vanessa was a devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend. Her husband, Harold Ross preceded her in death in May 2018. They were married for 32 years. Vanessa worked for Prairie Green at Dixie Crossing in Chicago Heights, Illinois for a number of years. Vanessa enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed listening to music, traveling, reading and spending time with her husband. Vanessa was a lifelong learner.She encouraged the pursuit of education with all her nieces and nephews. Vanessa was passionate about taking care of others as she worked in the Healthcare Industry for many years. Vanessa was the family “historian”. She archived and recorded many of the family's memories through photo albums, certificates, cards, letters and hand written notes. Vanessa was preceded in death by: Rada Long Sr. (father), Lovie Smith-Long (mother), Joe (brother), Arlene (sister), Richard (brother) and Rada Jr. (brother). Vanessa leaves to cherish her memory: four sisters: Marilyn, Freda (Leon Williams), Frances and Vickie; three brothers: Dennis, Steven and Micheal; Rosetta Smith (aunt), Homer Smith (uncle); and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Arrangements entrusted to Chicagoland Cremation Options of Schiller Park, Illinois. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
