Victor Van Jones, age 59, known to family and friends as “Skimp Dog”, of Powder Springs, Georgia—born and raised by his loving mother, Emma Jean Jones, in Chicago, Illinois—passed away unexpectedly on May 10, 2025.
Victor was a proud graduate of Grady High School in Grady, Arkansas. He carried the lessons that roots with him through every stage of life.
Victor was a father to Terrance R. Brunson, Victoria S. Jones, Victor V. Jones Jr., Laron A. Jones, Kayshawn K. Colbert-Jones, and Miracle Ann Bradley. He was a deeply loved grandfather to Essynce Brunson, Terry Cooke, Kadarii, Kyle Watson, Kylie Watson, Kehlani Boyd, Sincere Jones, and Mahyzon Williams.
He was a loved brother to Denise (Dwayne) Colbert-Jones, Joe E. Jones, Shivonn L. Jones, Mario M. Winans, and Shannon M. Jones. Victor also leaves behind treasured uncle—Earnest Jones, and aunts Mae Ester Fowler, Lizzine Bullard, Vessie Williams, Doris S. Jones, and Willie Bell Evans—as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Victor was well-regarded for his one-of-a-kind gift: he could make a whole room laugh and then hit you with a truth so real, it stuck with you long after the laughter faded. He had that uncle-at-the-cookout energy—the kind of humor that made your stomach hurt and your soul feel seen. He could roast you, teach you, and lift you up all in one breath. Always wrapped in wit and wisdom.
He was a king of the card table—a spades and dominoes enthusiast who didn’t just play, he held titles of mastery. Victor also enjoyed horror flicks and the kind of blues that hits you in the chest, especially moved by those old-school Dusties, vibed to his favorite Brooks & Dunn’s Believe. Fishing became a hobby later in life, one he shared with his younger brother Joe E. Jones—bonding over quiet waters, tangled lines, and heartfelt stories from their childhood and life adventures.
Professionally, Victor was a reliable, respected operations mechanic, lending his strong work ethic and steady hands a day to both Ford and Brown’s Rubbish Remover. He never half-stepped—earning respect with his integrity and consistency.
Victor’s legacy lives on through every laugh he sparked, every lesson he passed on, and every heart he touched. He carried hustle and heart that shall remain in our memories forever.
