Places Of Honor For Cremated Remains

June 7, 2021

After a cremation service for your loved one, you may want to display your loved one in their urn in your home. There are lots of locations of honor in the house to consider.

When you decide that a cremation service in Evanston, IL is the right thing to do for your loved one, there might be a variety of reasons behind that decision. Perhaps you feel that is what your loved one would have wanted, whether they told you so or you just have that feeling. Maybe it’s the option that best suits your budget. Or perhaps you choose that route because you really want to keep your loved one’s remains in your family home. If that is the case, there are a variety of locations of honor that you can consider. Here are a few to think through for your loved one’s urn after cremation.

Living Room

Many living rooms have locations that are safe and your loved one would be a part of lots of family activities. If you have a fireplace, the mantel is a high, out of the way location that is still a large part of the room. The urn would show there and would be in a place of honor. Perhaps you have a china hutch in the corner with special things you have collected over the years. That would be another location that would be safe for your loved one. Their urn and their presence would be felt in everything you and your family do from game night to movie night and everything in between.

Bedroom

If you have lost a spouse or perhaps a child, you might want that person to be as close to you as possible. It might not feel right putting them out on display for everyone. You want to keep them more to yourself. There are lots of places of honor in a bedroom including a headboard, a bedside table, a shelf on the wall, and other such locations. You can think of them every night and visit them in privacy whenever you want.

Office

If you want your loved one in an out of the way location that is still accessible to you and your family, the office might be a good place. You can place them on a bookshelf or in another safe place and have them be a part of the household, but not have them on display for anyone and everyone to see when they visit.

Kitchen

If your loved one adored cooking, or you just want them to be a part of the heart of the home, the kitchen can be a nice location for an urn. Place them up high on top of the cabinets or in a china hutch that displays other important items.
